BOSTON -- Mother Nature finally caught up with the Red Sox and Rangers Saturday afternoon.
Heavy windswept rains, which drenched the Boston area beginning in the second inning of Friday night's game, forced the postponement of Saturday night's contest at Fenway Park.
The game will be rescheduled as part of a day-night doubleheader when the Rangers visit Boston June 9-11. Tickets for Saturday's game will be good for the makeup game portion of that doubleheader.
Heavy rains are expected to continue through Saturday night, but the Red Sox are still hopeful to play Sunday afternoon's 2 p.m. finale of the weekend series.
Both teams will skip Saturday's scheduled starters (John Koronka for Texas and Lenny DiNardo for Boston) in their respective rotations and stick with their scheduled Sunday starters. Texas will send Kevin Millwood (3-3, 5.13 ERA) against Boston's Josh Beckett (4-1, 4.70 ERA).
This is the second home rainout for the Red Sox this season and the second this month. The May 2 game with the Yankees was also washed out.
