Jimenez finishes on a tear in winter ball action

First baseman Luis Antonio Jimenez completed an excellent season for the Cardenales de Lara with a six-game hitting streak.

The 24-year-old Venezuelan went 10-for-21 with a home run, six RBIs and five runs scored during the streak. Jimenez, who re-signed with the Red Sox on Dec. 20, ended the campaign batting .302 with four home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored in 42 games.

Here is how the rest of the Red Sox have fared recently in winter ball:

Venezuelan Winter League

Edgar Martinez, RHP -- The 25-year-old reliever made five appearances over the final 10 days of the season. He allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while fanning three over 5 2/3 innings as his ERA climbed to 2.19. Opponents hit .218 against Martinez, who went 0-3 in 21 games with the Pastora de los Llanos.

Jose Alvarez, LHP -- The 17-year-old southpaw has not appeared in a game since Nov. 24. On the season, he is 0-1 with a 14.09 ERA in nine games for the Caribes de Oriente. Opponents are batting .395 against him.

Tony Granadillo, SS -- The 22-year-old infielder appeared in his fourth game for the Tigres de Aragua on Dec. 23 but did not get a plate appearance. He finished the season 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Dominican Winter League

Sandy Madera, C -- Madera has not played in a game over the last five weeks and does not appear to be on the playoff roster for the Azucareros del Este. The 26-year-old was hitting .267 with one homer, three runs scored and an RBI in seven games.

Luis Soto, OF -- Through Dec. 21, the 21-year-old outfielder had appeared in only two games for the Azucareros, going 1-for-5 with an RBI. In his lone playoff game, Soto went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Alberto Castillo,C -- Through Nov. 24, the 36-year-old backstop was batting .239 with two homers, seven runs scored and six RBIs in 15 games. He is batting .154 (2-for-13) with three runs scored and two RBIs in six playoff games for the Aguilas Cibaenas.

Brandon Moss, OF -- The Eastern League playoff hero batted .228 with five homers, 16 RBIs and 15 runs scored in 29 games for the Cibaenas.

Travis Hughes, RHP -- Hughes had one save and a 2.70 ERA in three games with the Cibaenas through Oct. 25. The 28-year-old does not appear to be on the playoff roster.

Wily Mo Pena, OF -- The Major League veteran is struggling in his first six playoff games for Aguilas, going 1-for-23 with two RBIs.

Ed Rogers, SS -- The 28-year-old infielder was batting .237 with 10 runs scored, three RBIs and three stolen bases in 17 games through Nov. 29 for the Estrellas de Oriente.
