White, Beckett brilliant vs. Huskies

at Fort Myers, Fla.
Thursday, March 1

Red Sox at the plate: Minor Leaguer Scott White belted two homers -- including a grand slam -- and had six RBIs. A day after starring with his arm, Alex Ochoa performed with the bat in this one. The outfielder was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs.

Northeastern at the plate: Center fielder David Gustafson led off the game with a single up the middle against Josh Beckett. That was one of two hits Northeastern had.

Red Sox on the mound: Beckett was dominant over two innings, striking out five. Of Beckett's 21 pitches, 18 were strikes. Lefty Craig Breslow was impressive in relief, striking out three over two innings of work.

Northeastern on the mound: Bobby Carrington of Westfield, Mass., had a strikeout and didn't allow a hit over an inning of work.

Up next: The Red Sox will have a busy day on Friday, hosting two games at City of Palms Park. Right-hander Kyle Snyder will pitch the 12:35 p.m. ET contest against the Blue Jays. Daisuke Matsuzaka makes his highly anticipated debut against Boston College in a 6:05 p.m. ET encounter.
