Red Sox at the plate: David Murphy went 2-for-2, scored three runs and drove in two. Jacoby Ellsbury belted a triple and drove in two runs.

Boston College at the plate: Johnny Ayers led off the game by lacing Daisuke Matsuzaka's first pitch down the line in left for a double. Brandon Ziemann smashed a solo home run for Boston College's only run.

Red Sox on the mound: Matsuzaka's long-awaited debut was impressive, as he struck out three and allowed one hit over two innings. Rule 5 Draft pick Nick Debarr struck out four over two innings.

Boston College on the mound: Starter Ted Ratliff dodged out of trouble in the first, working a scoreless inning.

Up next: The Red Sox will send two starters to the mound in Saturday's home game against the Phillies as Tim Wakefield and Jonathan Papelbon will each work two innings. The Phillies counter with Adam Eaton. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. ET.
