Schilling sound in Sox loss to Twins

Twins at the plate: Joe Mauer continued his hot hitting as he went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Mauer's run came after Torii Hunter delivered a hard-hit double to right-center in the first inning.

Red Sox at the plate: Kevin Youkilis raised his batting average this spring to .412 with a 2-for-3 performance Thursday. David Murphy went 1-for-2 with a walk as the Red Sox tallied just three hits in the game.

Twins on the mound: Johan Santana looked much better in his second outing of the spring as he pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit while walking two and striking out two. Matt Guerrier pitched one inning with one strikeout.

Red Sox on the mound: Curt Schilling made his third consecutive start against the Twins this spring. He pitched four innings, allowing one run on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Devern Hansack threw two innings, giving up just two hits and walking one.

Grapefruit League records: Twins 2-5-1; Red Sox 3-5-1.

Up next: The Twins head to Vero Beach on Friday to take on the Dodgers in a 12:05 p.m. CT contest. Carlos Silva will get the start and will be followed on the mound by Sidney Ponson. The Red Sox head to Clearwater, where they will take on the Phillies in a 1:05 p.m. ET start. Boston will send Kason Gabbard to the mound.
