Red Sox at the plate: J.D. Drew had three RBIs on a double and a bases-loaded single up the middle in the fifth. Manny Ramirez had a run-scoring single and scored from first on the next play. Ramirez also walked twice in his three plate appearances. Boston tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh on a double, a fielder's choice and two walks.
Pirates at the plate: Ronny Paulino collected his team-leading 10th RBI with a solo homer in the sixth. Adam LaRoche singled in a run in the first inning.
Red Sox on the mound: Daisuke Matsuzaka held the Pirates to one run on one hit in his 5 2/3 innings, and also fanned seven. The Japanese righty retired 15 of the final 16 batters he faced, the lone exception being a one-out walk issued to Nate McLouth in the fifth.
Pirates on the mound: Tom Gorzelanny struck out five in 4 2/3 innings, but walked five as well during his first Grapefruit League loss. Juan Perez fanned two of the three batters he faced. Jim Brower was charged with three runs on three hits in the seventh.

Up next: Boston will face Philadelphia on the road on Thursday in a 1:05 p.m. ET game. Right-hander Tim Wakefield will throw for the Red Sox, as will righty Jonathan Papelbon.
Pittsburgh heads to Dunedin on Thursday for a 1:05 p.m. ET game against the Blue Jays. Tony Armas Jr. make his fifth outing (fourth start) for the Pirates, and is scheduled to be followed by Masumi Kuwata, John Wasdin, Salomon Torres, Matt Capps and Jonah Bayliss. Roy Halladay will start for Toronto.
