Schilling has solid outing in Sox win

Red Sox at the plate: Jason Varitek crushed a solo homer to center against Orioles ace Erik Bedard. It was Varitek's first homer of the spring, snapping an 0-for-17 drought. J.D. Drew was robbed of a home run by Orioles let fielder Freddie Bynum.

Orioles at the plate: Jay Gibbons and Kevin Millar stroked RBI doubles against Curt Schilling in the top of the fourth.

Red Sox on the mound: Schilling was strong in his most extended start of the spring. Over seven innings, Schilling scattered six hits and two runs while striking out six. He didn't walk anyone. Craig Hansen pitched a scoreless eighth.

Orioles on the mound: Bedard turned in a solid outing, holding the Sox to just one hit and one run over five innings while striking out eight. Closer Chris Ray walked two batters in his inning, but didn't allow a run.

Grapefruit League records: Red Sox 11-10-2; Orioles 11-10-2.
