Red Sox at the plate: David Ortiz hammered a two-run double off the wall in left-center in the third inning. Manny Ramirez got Boston off to an early lead with a sacrifice fly to left in the first. The Red Sox sent 13 players to the plate in a nine-run eighth.

Marlins at the plate: Hanley Ramirez, Dan Uggla and Josh Willingham were the only players to get hits off right-hander Josh Beckett, and all three hits were singles.

Red Sox on the mound: Beckett was in top form in his final Grapefruit League start, allowing just three hits and a run over seven innings. Beckett walked three and struck out seven.

Marlins on the mound: Yusmeiro Petit allowed three hits and three runs over 4 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out four. Lee Gardner fired two perfect innings out of the bullpen.

Grapefruit League records: Red Sox 12-10-3; Marlins 10-15-2.

Up next: Right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka takes the ball for the Sox in Monday's 1:05 p.m. ET contest at Sarasota, Fla., against the Reds. Cincinnati counters with right-hander Bobby Livingston.

The Marlins will be at home against the Cardinals, with Sergio Mitre taking on Adam Wainwright on Monday at 1:05 p.m.
