David Ortiz can put away his glove until the All-Star Game and go back to being a designated hitter. Mike Lowell will be at third, and Kevin Youkilis, who was rested the last two games, can reclaim his post at first base.
The Red Sox will send Julian Tavarez to the hill for the opener of their three-game series at Safeco Field against the Mariners, who will counter with Jeff Weaver.
After taking four out of six on the first two stops of their nine-game road trip, the Sox will try to keep it going in Seattle.
BOS: RHP Julian Tavarez (5-4, 4.50 ERA)
Tavarez is coming off his best start of the year, shutting down the Braves in a seven-inning masterpiece. In four June starts, Tavarez is 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA, and he's allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven of his past nine starts. Tavarez has thrived against the Mariners in his career, going 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA.
SEA: RHP Jeff Weaver (1-6, 8.56 ERA)
Weaver had his best outing of the season his last time out, allowing just four hits in his first shutout since Sept. 12, 2005. He struck out a season-high five batters en route to his first win of the season, helping the Mariners snap their six-game losing streak. Weaver's recorded two consecutive quality starts.
