The run was Boston's first since Brock Holt hit a solo home run in the eighth inning of Game 1 at Progressive Field. Boston left the tying run at second base as Sandy Leon struck out and Jackie Bradley Jr. grounded out.
The one-run deficit was short-lived, however, as Cleveland's Coco Crisp, a former Red Sox outfielder, hammered a two-run homer in the next frame to put the Indians up 4-1.
