BOSTON -- Jed Lowrie went 1-for-3 in the second game of his Minor League rehab assignment Tuesday, and appears to be nearing a return to the Red Sox.
Lowrie, who played shortstop on Monday, served as the DH.
He will work out with the Red Sox on Wednesday, and go back to Triple-A Pawtucket for two more games, Thursday and Friday.
"He lined out twice last night, which is good," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona. "He played three innings. He knew he was going to get two at-bats. He got three at-bats today. He'll report to us tomorrow and have a work day, and then he'll go back and get a little more stretched out on Thursday. The one thing we've probably got to do before we activate him is get him to play a nine-inning game. It doesn't have to be Thursday."
