Twins at the plate: Justin Morneau and Craig Monroe hit home runs on back-to-back pitches in the first inning. Mike Lamb went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Red Sox at the plate: Keith Ginter went 3-for-3. Dustin Pedroia was 1-for-3.

Twins on the mound: Left-hander Francisco Liriano, making his way back from Tommy John elbow ligament transplant surgery following the 2006 season, made his first start of the spring. He went 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk, with one strikeout. Nick Blackburn relieved him and went 2 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up one walk.

Red Sox on the mound: Clay Buchholz went three innings, giving up three runs on three hits -- including two home runs -- hitting one batter and striking out three. Jonathan Papelbon relieved him, going two innings and allowing two runs on three hits, with one strikeout.

Grapefruit League records: Twins 5-3; Red Sox 3-6.

Up next: Josh Beckett is expected to start Saturday as the Sox host the Marlins at City of Palms Park in Fort Myers, Fla. Game time is 1:05 p.m. ET. The Twins will play the Pirates in Bradenton, Fla., at 1:05, with Scott Baker starting opposite Matt Morris.
