Ramirez, Lowell power Sox over Mets

Red Sox at the plate: Manny Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Mike Lowell belted a solo homer. Joe Thurston added a double and scored a run. Second baseman Dustin Pedroia took the day off due to the flu.

Mets at the plate: Argenis Reyes singled and scored a run from the leadoff spot. Angel Pagan belted a two-out triple in the third.

Red Sox on the mound: Veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield scattered five hits and two runs over four innings, walking three and striking out none. Jonathan Papelbon appeared to be in midseason form out of the bullpen, firing two perfect innings and striking out two.

Mets on the mound: Nelson Figueroa had some ups and downs in his start, giving up five hits and four runs over three innings. He walked two and struck out one. Steven Register was strong in relief, allowing two hits and no runs over two innings.

Grapefruit League records: Red Sox 4-8-1; Mets 8-5-1

Up next: The Sox will make the short bus ride to Hammond Stadium to play the Twins on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. ET. It is the fifth and final game between the two teams that train in Fort Myers, and this one will decide the winner of the annual Mayor's Cup. Clay Buchholz will take the start for Boston and be followed out of the bullpen by Mike Timlin, Bryan Corey and Craig Breslow.
