Youkilis goes deep but Sox drop finale

BLUE JAYS 4, RED SOX 3
at Fort Myers, Fla.
Wednesday, March 19

Blue Jays at the plate: With the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning, Chip Cannon hit an arching fly ball to center field that the Red Sox's Reid Engel lost in the sun and allowed to fall in for a three-run double. Scott Rolen went 2-for-2 with a double, Vernon Wells went 1-for-3 and Shannon Stewart went 1-for-3.

Red Sox at the plate: Kevin Youkilis clubbed a three-run homer in the third inning, but it was the lone offense Boston could muster in its Grapefruit League finale.

Blue Jays on the mound: Left-hander Brian Tallet started and went two scoreless innings, allowing one walk while striking out four.

Red Sox on the mound: With their Major League game delayed more than an hour, scheduled starter Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched in a Minor League. David Aardsma took Dice-K's spot, tossing two scoreless innings and giving up two hits and a walk. Bryan Corey also turned in two scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Grapefruit League records: Blue Jays 8-11; Red Sox 7-11-2

Up next for the Jays: On Thursday, the Blue Jays head back home to Knology Park in Dunedin, Fla., to host the rival Yankees at 1:05 p.m. ET. Toronto ace Roy Halladay, who is scheduled to start Opening Day against New York on March 31, is slated to pitch in a Minor League game to avoid giving the Yankees a free preview. Right-hander Kane Davis and top pitching prospect Brett Cecil, among others, are slated to appear in the Grapefruit League contest.

Up next for the Sox: Boston's next game is slated for Saturday at 11:07 a.m. ET when it takes on the Hanshin Tigers in Tokyo. Clay Buchholz is expected to start for the Sox.
