Aviles gets start at hot corner in series finale
ST. PETERSBURG -- Manager Terry Francona decided to start Mike Aviles on Sunday at third base in place of Jed Lowrie, who is 1-for-9 in his career against Rays starter James Shields.

"Jed's struggled against Shields, and since we've played him a few days in a row, we can give him two days off," Francona said. "It will be really good for him."

Lowrie is 0-for-12 on the current road trip, which began six games ago in Toronto.

Aviles is 1-for-5 against Shields for his career.
