Throughout the week at Fenway Park, the Red Sox and Red Sox Foundation will celebrate each of the five New England states outside of Massachusetts and recognize the philanthropic achievements of high school students and charities in Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.
Beginning tonight, Monday, July 31, through the end of this homestand ending Sunday, August 6, 152 public high school students who have engaged in community service in each state will be recognized on the field and awarded $1,000 scholarships for college as part of the Red Sox Foundation's New England Service Scholarship Awards, presented by Jenzabar and supported by Ford Motor Company. The Rhode Island Service Scholarships are also supported by National Grid.
Additionally, winners of the Red Sox Foundation's "IMPACT Awards" (Inspiring More Philanthropy Across Charities Together), a program that awards $10,000 grants to charities in each state based on fan voting, will also be recognized on the field.
The state days begin with a celebration of New Hampshire before tonight's game, followed by Rhode Island on Tuesday, August 1; Connecticut on Wednesday, August 2; Vermont on Saturday, August 5; and Maine on Sunday, August 6.
Children from group homes in each New England state will be present for the ceremonies with participants from Webster House in New Hampshire, St Mary's Children's Home in Rhode Island, Wheeler Clinic in Connecticut, Allenbrook Group Home in Vermont, and Good Will-Hinckley in Maine.
Representatives from each state will also participate in other elements of the pregame celebration, including the singing of the national anthem and color guard.
