BOSTON -- Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis was plunked on the left leg by a pitch from Yankees right-hander David Phelps in the bottom of the third inning of Saturday's 15-9 loss to the Yankees, and he exited in the top of the fifth with a left quad contusion.
Nate Spears replaced Youkilis at third base.
Earlier this week, Youkilis experienced some difficulty with his groin and was out of Monday's lineup.
Youkilis is hitting .190 with one homer and five RBIs this season.
Youkilis has missed a lot of time due to injuries over the last two seasons, so the Red Sox are hoping he can have a largely healthy 2012.
