Ortiz doing separate running program

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- As part of the master plan to be conservative during the early weeks of Spring Training, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz isn't participating in team baserunning or conditioning drills yet. But he's doing his own agility work with the trainers and looks comfortable moving around.

"They are specific to his protocol," said manager John Farrell. "He feels not only that he's getting stronger, but with each passing day, there's less hesitancy to be a little bit more agile, a little bit more explosive. So I know that's a relative statement, but he's making good progress."

During batting practice, Ortiz certainly appeared comfortable, hitting bullets all over the field.
