The Boston Red Sox today recalled catcher Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Alfredo Aceves was optioned to Pawtucket following yesterday's win over Oakland.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

Lavarnway, 25, has appeared in 11 games for the PawSox in 2013, all at catcher, and has hit .310 (13-for-42) with three doubles, one home run, seven RBI, nine runs, and seven walks. He has thrown out four of eight attempted base stealers (50 percent), tied for the second-best rate among International League qualifiers.
