Ortiz still doesn't have a homer and is hitting .208, so manager Terry Francona gave him the Seattle series off.
Hitting coach Dave Magadan said Ortiz's mechanics are back where they are supposed to be, so all the slugger needs now is to regain his confidence.
Lugo wanted to play on Sunday, but Francona thought it would be better to have him take Sunday and Monday's off-day to recover from a minor groin injury rather than take a chance on having the injury worsen.Pitching matchup
BOS: RHP Tim Wakefield (4-2, 4.03 ERA)
Uncharacteristically, the veteran knuckleballer squandered an early 4-0 lead in his last start, which was easily his worst of the season. Wakefield was belted around for 11 hits and seven runs over 4 2/3 innings. This will be Wakefield's third start of the season at Fenway, where he is 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA. Wakefield is 16-11 lifetime against the Blue Jays with a 3.76 ERA. TOR: LHP Brian Tallet (2-1, 4.68 ERA)
Tallet recorded a no-decision on Thursday against the Yankees at Rogers Centre. He went six-plus innings, giving up two runs on four hits and five walks. He walked Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher with the bases loaded in the first inning, but he settled down after that, giving up only two singles and a walk from the second through sixth innings. He left the game with runners on the corners with no outs in the seventh inning, and he was charged with a run when New York's Brett Gardner, whom Tallet left on third, scored. Tidbits
Center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury brings a 13-game hitting streak into Tuesday's game. He's batting .344 (21-for-61) over the length of the streak. ... Shortstop Nick Green is 20-for-61 (.328) over his past 20 games since April 22. Tickets
