Red Sox select 30 players on final day of Draft

BOSTON, MA-The Boston Red Sox today concluded their participation in Major League Baseball's 2013 First-Year Player Draft with 30 additional selections in rounds 11-40. Red Sox Director of Amateur Scouting Amiel Sawdaye made the announcement.

Today's picks included third baseman Nick Zammarelli, 18, a Rawlings All-American honorable mention out of Lincoln Senior High School in Lincoln, RI. In addition, the club selected 18-year-old catcher Ryan Lidge, the cousin of former major league closer Brad Lidge, out of Barrington (IL) High School in the 40th round.

Over the three days of the draft, Boston selected 18 pitchers (13 right-handers, five left-handers), nine infielders, eight outfielders, and five catchers. Of the 40 players drafted, 22 are from high school and 18 are from college.

"We are excited with the players that we were able to draft over the past three days," said Sawdaye. "Our scouts did an outstanding job in preparation for the draft, allowing us to select a diverse mix of talented pitching and position player prospects. We look forward to adding this talent into the Red Sox organization and to beginning the players' development path in professional baseball."
