Red Sox recall right-hander Pedro Beato

BOSTON, MA - Prior to tonight's game against the Colorado Rockies, the Boston Red Sox recalled right-hander Pedro Beato from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, left-hander Franklin Morales was placed on the disabled list (retroactive to June 23) with a left pectoralis strain. Beato is expected to be available for tonight's 7:10 p.m. game at Fenway Park.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

Beato, 26, rejoins the Red Sox for his second major league stint of the season. He appeared in two games for Boston from June 16-21 and threw 2.0 scoreless innings over those two appearances, both in relief. With Pawtucket this season, he is 5-1 with two saves and a 1.83 ERA (7 ER/34.1 IP), 12 walks and 30 strikeouts in 20 games all out of the bullpen.

Morales, 27, left his last outing, Saturday at Detroit, with left shoulder discomfort. In six games for the Red Sox this season, he is 2-0 with a 7.30 ERA (10 ER/12.1 IP), nine walks and 11 strikeouts. Morales made his season debut for Boston in a spot start on May 27 at Philadelphia. He earned the win in that game, allowing two runs on four hits over 5.0 innings of work.
