Red Sox sign fourth-round Draft pick Myles Smith

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox announced today that they have signed 21-year-old right-hander Myles Smith, their fourth-round pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.

Smith went 11-4 with a 2.67 ERA (25 ER/84.1 IP) and 94 strikeouts compared to 38 walks allowed and held opponents to a .202 batting average over a team-high 16 starts this year as a junior at Lee University in Cleveland, TN. This season, the 6-1, 175-pound pitcher ranked among Southern States Athletic Conference leaders in wins (tied for third), strikeouts (third), opponent batting average (fourth), and ERA (tenth). He was selected by the Mets in the 16th round of the 2012 June Draft out of Miami Dade South Community College but did not sign.
