Top prospect Devers among four Boston signings

The Red Sox announced four international free-agent signings on Friday, including 16-year-old third baseman Rafael Devers, MLB.com's No. 6 overall international prospect.

Boston also made official its Minor League deals with left-handers Emmanuel DeJesus and Jhonathan Diaz and center fielder Yoan Aybar.

MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez previously reported that Devers signed for $1.5 million. DeJesus, ranked 24th among international prospects, agreed to a $787,500 deal, while Diaz signed for $600,000 and Aybar for $450,000, according to a baseball source.

Devers, from the Dominican Republic, was considered by some scouts to be the best left-handed hitter available on the international market. There is some concern about the 6-foot, 175-pounder's long-term potential at third base, with some scouts thinking he might fit best at second base or in left field, but Devers has been praised for his competitiveness, makeup and attitude.

Scouts like DeJesus, a 16-year-old from Venezuela, for his 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame and his upside. His power arm could one day land him in Boston's rotation, but he also might fit in the bullpen. DeJesus doesn't have a dominant fastball, but scouts say he has a good feel for an array of pitches, with the ability to work the corners of the strike zone.

Diaz, also 16 and from DeJesus' hometown of Valencia, Venezuela, is a 6-foot, 170-pound left-handed pitcher. The 16-year-old Aybar, listed at 6-foot-2 and 165 pounds, is a left-handed center fielder from the Dominican Republic. Neither Diaz nor Aybar ranked among MLB.com's top 30 international prospects.
