Drew, Ellsbury, and Napoli decline one-year qualifying offers

|

The Boston Red Sox announced today that shortstop Stephen Drew, centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, and first baseman Mike Napoli declined one-year qualifying offers from the club.

Drew, Ellsbury, and Napoli were tendered qualifying offers on November 4 and had until 5:00 p.m. today to either accept or decline.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, a free agent is subject to draft-pick compensation if his former club offers him a guaranteed one-year contract with a salary equal to the average salary of the 125-highest paid players from the prior season.

Clubs retain the right to negotiate and/or enter into a contract agreement with any of their free agents, regardless of whether an offer was made or accepted. There are no deadlines for such negotiations and/or agreements.
