Ellsbury a Heart and Hustle finalist

|
BOSTON -- Jacoby Ellsbury's blazing speed just might earn him some hardware later this year.

The Red Sox's center fielder has been selected as a finalist for the 2009 edition of the Heart and Hustle Award, presented annually by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association to an active player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.

In just his second full big league campaign, Ellsbury continues to establish himself as an absolute terror on the basepaths. Entering Monday's action, the 25-year-old is batting .294 this season with six home runs and 43 RBIs to accompany 54 stolen bases -- a single-season club record he shares with former Boston speedster Tommy Harper.

Voted on by former Major Leaguers, the Heart and Hustle Award will be presented at the Legends for Youth Dinner on Nov. 6 in New York.
