ST. PETERSBURG -- Already mired in an eight-game losing streak, the last thing the Red Sox need is another injury issue.

But they just might have one, as right fielder Shane Victorino exited Friday night's 1-0 loss to the Rays with a right hamstring strain.

Victorino suffered the injury legging out a bunt in the top of the ninth inning as teammate A.J. Pierzynski was thrown out at second.

"He strained the right hamstring. Preliminary, or at least the first exam, it doesn't appear to be as severe as Spring Training," said manager John Farrell. "But we'll get a better read on it once a full workup is done when he gets to the park."

Victorino suffered a right hamstring strain in the final Grapefruit League game, and was on the disabled list from March 31 until April 24.
