The future is coming for Christian Vazquez.
Vazquez, a catcher who is ranked as the No. 10 prospect in Boston's farm system by MLB.com, will be going to the Futures Game as a replacement for Atlanta prospect Christian Bethancourt. Bethancourt has been promoted to the big leagues, opening up a spot for Vazquez on the World roster.
Vazquez, 23, was born in Puerto Rico and selected by the Red Sox in the ninth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. A right-handed hitter, he is batting .275 with three home runs and a .331 on-base percentage in his first full season as the catcher for Triple-A Pawtucket.
Vazquez has thrown out 39 percent (18-of-46) of attempted base-stealers this season, and he's coming off a campaign during which he hit .289 with 25 extra-base hits in 96 games for Double-A Portland. Vazquez has been a .265 hitter with 38 home runs over the course of his seven-year Minor League career.
