BOSTON, MA-Prior to tonight's game, the Boston Red Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Allen Webster from Triple-A Pawtucket. He is scheduled to start tomorrow's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field beginning at 1:40 p.m.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

Webster, 24, will join the Red Sox for his first major league stint of 2014. In 21 games (20 starts) for the PawSox this year, he has gone 4-4 with one save, a 3.10 ERA (42 ER/122.0 IP), and 100 strikeouts. Among International League leaders, he entered today ranked eighth in ERA, tied for fourth in strikeouts, and fifth in innings pitched. Webster has limited opponents to a .230 batting average as a starter, the fifth-lowest such mark in the league, and has given up three earned runs or less in 18 of his 20 starts. The right-hander has fanned 74 batters in 78.0 innings over his last 13 outings, the most strikeouts in the International League since May 14, and owns a 2.62 ERA (17 ER/58.1 IP) in his last nine starts. In his first major league action in 2013, he went 1-2 with an 8.60 ERA (29 ER/30.1 IP) over eight outings (7 starts) with the Red Sox. He was acquired by Boston from the Dodgers in a nine-player trade with the Dodgers in August 2012.
