BOSTON -- Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia grounded a ball off Blue Jays reliever Aaron Sanchez toward the hole and attempted to leg out the throw on a sparkling play by shortstop Jose Reyes in the eighth inning of Tuesday night's 4-2 Toronto victory.

First-base umpire Mark Wegner called Pedroia out on the close play, and Boston manager John Farrell came out to talk to him with his team trailing, 3-1.

Farrell went on to challenge the play, and after a 1-minute and 28-second review, the call on the field stood. Pedroia was out after Reyes' strong throw off his back foot and a nice scoop at first by newly acquired Danny Valencia at first.
