Red Sox All-Star pitcher Clay Buchholz and his wife, Lindsay Buchholz, will host the 2nd Annual Buchholz Bowl, presented by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual), on Thursday, July 31st at Lucky Strike Lanes/Jillian's (145 Ipswich Street, Boston) from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The fundraising event includes a celebrity-packed bowling tournament, silent and live auctions, an awards ceremony, and a global social media campaign designed to allow fans around the world the ability to participate virtually in the evening. All proceeds from the event benefit the Clay Buchholz Foundation, which provides health, educational and sports opportunities to improve the lives of children in need. The private, sold out event garnered sponsorships from partners ranging from $5,000 to $50,000.
"It is an honor for Lindsay and me to be able to give back, especially to families and children who are facing difficult battles. The amount of support this community, both near and far, provides for our Foundation is remarkable," said co-founder Clay Buchholz.

From Boston to Hollywood, celebrities are showing strong support for the Foundation and its cause. Expected attendees for this year's event include actor/comedian Rob Riggle, (Dumb & Dumber To, 22 Jump Street, The Lorax, The Hangover and host of NFL on FOX), current and retired Red Sox players, Deal/No Deal models/entertainers, including Megan Abrigo and Lisa (Lakatos) Cusson, as well as other local personalities. A celebrity captain will lead each of the 16 corporate bowling teams to compete for the championship and win prizes, such as Clay Buchholz autographed jerseys, autographed bases and commemorative bowling pins.
Given the overwhelming response to last year's event, this year's event is being extended via social media to allow virtual participation from around the globe. SapientNitro, the digital strategy partner for the Buchholz Bowl and the Boston Red Sox, created the #HopeBowl campaign, leveraging the best of story and technology to engage and connect communities around the world.
Through the close of the event on July 31st, the Clay Buchholz Foundation will encourage fans from all over the world to join event attendees in lending support to children in need by uploading inspiring photos to Instagram and sharing words of encouragement on Twitter using the hashtag #HopeBowl. Through this social media campaign, together SapientNitro and the Clay Buchholz Foundation will help build one of the largest "virtual" blankets. The photos and messages collected will be live streamed during the Buchholz Bowl, creating a virtual mosaic that entwines the stories of everyone who participates. To extend this support beyond the evening, the photos used as part of this "virtual blanket" will be downloaded and sewn into physical blankets to be given to children in need.
