Pirates at the plate: Delwyn Young hit a solo shot, his second home run of the spring, in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie. Steve Pearce nearly hit one out in the eighth, but settled for an RBI double off the wall.Red Sox at the plate: The Red Sox's bats were kept silent until the seventh inning, managing just two hits, singles by Victor Martinez and Adrian Beltre, for the game, until Mike Cameron doubled to lead off the bottom of the seventh. An infield single by Jose Iglesias moved pinch-runner Darnell McDonald to third, Ryan Kalish walked and Tug Hulett singled in a pair to give the Red Sox the lead.
Grapefruit League records: Pirates 3-7; Red Sox 7-3Up next: The Pirates host the World Series champion New York Yankees on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. ET on MLB.TV. Charlie Morton will get the start against CC Sabathia. Vinnie Chulk, initially supposed to pitch on Friday, will throw, as well. The Pirates will also have a "B" game against the Orioles at Pirate City. Brad Lincoln will get the start in that contest.
The Red Sox head over to Hammond County Stadium to face the Twins at 1:05 p.m. on MLB.TV. Josh Beckett will make his third start of the spring. The right-hander has allowed just one run on two hits and no walks while striking out four over five innings. Minnesota will send Kevin Slowey to the mound.
