Ortiz initially shook off the injury and stayed in the game Saturday, throwing his arm guard off in frustration and taking his base.
But when Ortiz was due up in the bottom of the eighth inning, Kelly Johnson came out to pinch-hit for him.
"A little swollen," Ortiz said while flexing his arm. "But I'll be all right."
Red Sox right-hander Alex Wilson buzzed Robinson Cano on the backside in the top of the seventh, at which point both sides received warnings from home-plate umpire Angel Hernandez.
"That's just how the game works sometimes," said Wilson, who added that his plunking of Cano was an accident. "Unfortunately, I messed up and hit a guy, and they have to warn guys after that. It wasn't really a factor going forward."
