Full name is Joshua Alan Rutledge. Married his wife, Laura, in December 2013. Signed by Damon Iannelli (Rockies). Attended the University of Alabama...Named to the 2010 All-SEC First Team...Led the Crimson Tide with a .369 AVG in 2008, becoming only the 2nd freshman in school history to lead the team in batting. Graduated from Cullman HS...In 2007, won a state championship and was named Alabama 5A Player of the Year. His older brother, Michael, played baseball at Mississippi State from 2005-07.

2016

In his 1st full season in the Red Sox organization, appeared in only 5 games with Triple-A Pawtucket before being selected to the ML roster on 4/13...Spent the remainder of the season with BOS, but missed the final 3 1/2 months on the disabled list. Made 12 starts for BOS (3B-10, 2B-2), with the Sox going 8-4 in those games. Went 3-for-7 (.429) with 2 2B as a pinch-hitter...Was 12-for-37 (.324) against AL clubs, compared to 1-for-12 (.083) in Interleague play. Posted a .382/.447/.559 batting line in his first 18 games with BOS (13-for-34, 6 2B, 3 RBI, 9 R, 4 BB, 2 SB)...Each of his first 3 hits with the Sox was a double. Recorded his 100th career RBI on 4/18 vs. TOR, giving the Sox a 1-0 lead with a run-scoring double in the 2nd. Began the season on the Rockies Opening Day roster for the first time in his career... was the Rockies starting second baseman to begin 2013...was his first season opening at a position other than shortstop in his professional career... Was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on 5/22, which was his first career assignment at Triple-A...would return to the Rockies 6/14 and be optioned again to Triple-A on 7/21...returned to the Rockies 9/1... Was his most productive following his return to the Majors in September, as he hit .328 (19-for-58) with one double, one triple, on home run and 10 runs scored in 21 games in September... Played in a total of 38 games at Triple-A, batting .371 (53-for-143) with 17 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, 24 RBI and 24 runs... Scored 19 runs in 25 games during the month of April...his 19 runs that month were the 9th-most in the NL...had three games with 3 runs scored in 2013, 4/13 at SD, 4/16 vs. NYM, 9/4 vs. LAD... 2012 Was added to the Rockies Major League roster coming out of the All-Star break, as he was selected to the roster straight from Double-A Tulsa.went 2-for-2 with a double, 2 RBI, a walk and a stolen base in his first MLB game on 7/13 vs. PHI...Rutledge became the first Rockies player to have a multi-hit game, and have at least 2 RBI in his first MLB game since Jordan Pacheco on 9/6/11...with two hits in his first two MLB PA's, Rutledge became the first Rockies player with a hit in each of his first two MLB plate appearances since since Ben Petrick did so on 9/1/99. Hit .381 (24-for-63) in July and set several records for production in his first two months of the season...struggled down the stretch by batting .197 (26-for-132) with 10 RBI in September/October. Despite his late-season struggles, his 130 total bases after the All-Star break (debuted game after ASB) were the 2ndmost among NL rookies. Had 18 RBI in his first 22 MLB games...Elias: Only other player in Rockies history with at least 18 RBI in his first 22 MLB games was Jeff Baker (20 RBI) from 2005-2006.
